Fresh sawdust often arrives at 30–50% moisture. Removing that water costs heat, time and drum volume — and the dryer's output sets the true capacity of the entire charcoal line. Buyers who size the press first and the dryer second usually discover the mismatch after delivery.

- Target moisture for the next stage (briquetting: 8–12%).
- Evaporation required per hour — this sizes the dryer, not kg/h of feed.
- Heat source: wood waste, gas, diesel or biomass burner.
