Why roller crushing is different
Impact and hammer machines keep hitting material until it escapes — generating fines you may not want. A roll crusher applies one compressive event per particle. The gap sets the top size; almost nothing comes out finer than necessary.

Smooth or toothed?
- Smooth rolls: hardest wear surface, finest control — coal, coke, sinter.
- Toothed rolls: grip larger feed — clay, shale, soft limestone with occasional oversize.
