How the nested design earns its cost
Hot gas meets wet material in the inner drum, then the same material passes back through the middle and outer drums. The exhaust leaves cooler because the coldest material absorbs the last of the heat. On fuel-poor sites, that efficiency is the whole business case.

Honest limits
Very sticky or very large-lump feed travels poorly through nested drums. Coal slime and wet filter cake usually belong in a single drum with breaking flights — tell us your feed and we'll say which.
