Two routes to diesel
- Direct engine drive: the crusher runs off a diesel engine via clutch and belts. Cheapest for single machines — small jaw crushers, hammer mills, irrigation pumps.
- Diesel generator set: one genset powers the whole plant's motors. Right answer when multiple machines must start in sequence.
Sizing rule that saves trouble
Motor starting current runs 5–7× rated. A genset sized only for running load will stall at the first crusher start. We size to the largest motor's starting surge with the rest of the plant already running — and we put the sequence in writing.
