Three media
| Media | Open area | Wear life | Suited for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 65Mn woven wire | High | Standard | General screening; lowest cost per square metre |
| Stainless 304 / 316 | High | Long in corrosive duty | Wet screening, corrosive environments |
| Polyurethane modular | Lower | 5–10× wire | Wet, sticky feed; noise limits; long change-out intervals |
Woven wire wins on open area and price. Polyurethane wins on life and noise. Stainless wins wherever corrosion eats carbon steel.
Aperture and wire diameter
Standard range, square aperture:
| Aperture (mm) | Wire dia. (mm) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 2 – 5 | 1.0 – 1.6 | Fine screening, dewatering |
| 6 – 13 | 2.0 – 3.0 | Manufactured sand sizing |
| 16 – 31.5 | 3.0 – 5.0 | Mid-size aggregate |
| 37.5 – 63 | 5.0 – 8.0 | Coarse aggregate, scalping |
| 75 – 100 | 8.0 – 12.0 | Scalping, grizzly decks |
Matching to your deck
Send three numbers: deck length × width, aperture, and fixing type. We cut woven mesh to size with hook strips, or mold polyurethane panels to the modular pin system your screen uses — the 305 × 305 mm and 610 × 610 mm standards, plus custom sizes.
Fixing types we supply
- Hook strip: tensioned mesh for inclined vibrating screens — the quarry standard.
- Modular pin: snap-in polyurethane panels; change one panel, not the whole deck.
- Bolt-down: heavy scalping decks and high-impact positions.
When polyurethane beats wire
- Wet or sticky feed blinds woven wire; polyurethane's tapered apertures self-clear.
- Noise limits near settlements — polyurethane runs far quieter than wire.
- Change-out cost — when stopping the line costs more than the media, 5–10× life pays for itself.
When wire still wins: maximum open area for throughput, lowest upfront cost, and coarse scalping where impact would tear molded panels.
Installation notes
- Tension evenly across the full width. Loose mesh whips and wears three times faster.
- Check the hook strips for cracks every time you change mesh — a failed hook drops the whole panel.
- Crown wide decks slightly to keep the mesh taut at the center.
- Keep a spare set on site. Mesh is cheap; a stopped screening line is not.
Measure the aperture of a worn panel, not a new one — wire stretches in service and the spec drifts. Back to all wear parts →
