The five blocks of a quotable brief
1. Material
- What is it, exactly — rock type, crop, scrap stream?
- Maximum feed size and the size distribution, not just the average.
- Moisture range across seasons, and clay or contamination content.
- Hardness or abrasiveness if known; a sample sent for testing settles it.
2. Capacity
- Tonnes per hour and hours per day — 100 t/h over 8 hours is a different machine from 100 t/h over 20.
- Peak vs average: design for the peak you must meet, not the average you hope for.
3. Products
- The output sizes or specification you sell against — with any gradation envelope or cleanliness standard.
- Which fraction is the money fraction: the plant should be biased toward it.
4. Site
- Power: voltage, phase, frequency, and whether grid, genset or diesel drive.
- Footprint and headroom; mobile or fixed; climate extremes (heat, cold, altitude, humidity).
- Water availability where washing or dust suppression is involved.
5. Commercial frame
- Destination port and whether you want ex-works, FOB or CIF pricing.
- A budget range — honest factories use it to configure, not to inflate.
- Timeline: when you need delivery, counting backwards from your season.
The one-paragraph version
"Limestone quarry near Jeddah, blasted feed to 600 mm, target 250 t/h over two 8-hour shifts, four fractions 0–5/5–10/10–20/20–25 mm to Saudi ready-mix spec, 380V/60Hz grid on site, fixed plant, CIF Jeddah, budget USD 400–550k, needed before Q4." That paragraph gets three comparable quotes in a week. "Need crusher 250 ton" gets three incomparable guesses.
