The five readings
1. Capacity basis
Every capacity figure rests on an assumed material. "200 t/h" on soft limestone may be 130 t/h on your granite. A serious quote names the assumed material, feed size and product spec next to the capacity. If yours doesn't, ask for the assumption in writing.
2. Scope and exclusions

3. Wear-part economics
The machine price is paid once; wear parts are paid forever. A quotable number: cost per tonne of wear parts on your material. Any factory that runs these machines can estimate it — jaw plates, blow bars, mantles, screen mesh, with set prices attached.
4. Delivery and payment terms
- Ex-works, FOB or CIF — the same machine differs by 10–15% across those three words.
- Production lead time from deposit, and what counts as "delivery."
- Payment staging tied to milestones you can verify: production photos, test run, inspection.
5. Warranty mechanics
"12 months" means nothing without process: who diagnoses, who ships the part, who pays freight, response time in days. Get the process in the contract.
Normalizing quotes for comparison
Build a one-page table: machine list with motor powers, total installed kW, wear-part set prices, exclusions, payment staging, lead time, warranty process. Fill one column per supplier. The quote that looked cheapest rarely survives normalization — and the factory that resists your questions just answered them.
