What the contract actually tests
- Gradation: each fraction must sit inside the specified envelope — subbase, road base and asphalt aggregates each have their own.
- Flakiness index: elongated particles fail asphalt specs; this is where crusher selection shows up in test results.
- Los Angeles abrasion: gabbro from the northern emirates usually passes comfortably; weathered zones in the quarry face may not.
- Soundness and plasticity: sand equivalent and plasticity limits on fine fractions.
Why gabbro changes the equipment list
Fujairah gabbro is 200+ MPa and highly abrasive. Impact crushers are uneconomical here — blow bars last days. The standard answer is jaw plus cone, accepting slightly flakier product and controlling shape with choke feeding and, where specs are tight, a VSI shaping stage at the end.
